How to go to Sipadan Island from Kuala Lumpur?

The easiest and nicest way is to stay at Mataking Reef Dive Resort. One of the reason we recommened Mataking Reef Dive resort is because to go Sipadan Island from Mataking Island, minimum requirement is only 3 days 2 nights stay. For other hotels/resorts, you will need to stay more than 5 nights to be eligible to go to Sipadan Island.

First, get yourself a ticket from KLIA to Tawau. Please try to land in Tawau Airport before 1pm if you do not want to overnight in Semporna Town.

PLEASE BE INFORMED : From Tawau Airport to Semporna Town/Jetty is 1.5 hours drive. From Semporna Jetty to Mataking Island is 45 minutes boat ride. Government bans boats on the ocean after 4pm. Thus, you will need to try to catch the latest boat from Semporna to Mataking which is at 3.30pm.

You will arrive Mataking Island at around 4.30pm, check in and rest & relax. And get ready to go to Sipadan Island the next day.

PLEASE BE INFORMED : To do the Sipadan One Day Tour, you don’t need to be licensed diver. You can do snorkeling at Sipadan Island too.

What you will need to pay extra to go to Sipadan Island from Mataking Reef Diver Resort?

1. Non refundable permit fees of RM 140.00 per person per day (subject to Sabah Park changes)
2. Boat fees. This special arrangement requires an additional boat fees of RM 1500.00 per boat. This boat fee can be shared with other guests (if any) upon permit approval (maximum 6 guests in one boat).

Means, if on the day you are going to Sipadan Island, there is a total 6 person booked and go to the Sipadan Day Tour together. You need to pay only RM 140 + RM 250 (RM 1500/6) = RM 390.00

Let’s say you are taking 3 days 2 night package diver staying in Premium Room, you pay only RM 390 + RM 1755 = RM 2145.
